Shu Xuan(玄殊) has recently joined the Confucius Institute at the College of William and Mary as a volunteer Chinese teacher selected and trained by China Hanban in conjunction with Confucius Institute Headquarters. This training has prepared Shu for teaching Chinese as a second language; in addition, it has taught her skills on teaching traditional Chinese culture. Presently a student of Beijing Normal University, she is pursuing her Master Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages. In 2009, as a student representative of Changchun University of Science and Technology, she visited Buryat State University and BSU Confucius Institute in Russia in terms of cultural and art exchanges, and took part in China's 60th anniversary Russian art performance. She focused on many traditional Chinese culture arts; such as Taichi, traditional Chinese dance, Chinese paper cutting, Chinese knotting, and Chinese folk songs. Additionally, Shu is skilled at Chinese martial arts and Chinese calligraphy. In 2010, she took part in Jilin Province Games, and won third place in Taichi. Also, in the Changchun martial arts competition, she was named champion in Taichi. Subsequently, she has been granted the Chinese martial arts Liuduan title.
