Hongyu Zhang is a volunteer teacher at the William & Mary Confucius Institute (WMCI). She received her bachelor degree in University of Science and Technology Beijing as an English major and her master degree in Beijing Normal University (BNU) as a major in Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics.

After a competitive selecting process, Ms. Zhang was selected by Hanban (Confucius Institute Headquarters) to be a volunteer teacher. She has gone through rigorous training, taking courses in Chinese language teaching, Chinese culture, Chinese traditional art, intercultural communication, and positive psychology. She is skilled at making paper-cut, Chinese Knot and does well in Peking opera, traditional Chinese dance and Tai Chi.

Prior to joining in WMCI, Ms. Zhang has lots of experience in teaching. From December 2010 to March 2013, Ms Zhang taught in the Second High School Attached to BNU. From September 2011 to December 2011, she taught in Beijing Youth Politics College. She has been recognized for improving students’ performance and developing innovative classroom activities.
