Kaiyan Gao (高凯燕) joined the Confucius Institute at William & Mary as a volunteer teacher in July 2017. She is a graduate student at Beijing Normal University majoring in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages. At BNU, she conducted one-on-one Chinese refresher courses for students from the US and served as a resident director for international students. Additionally, Kaiyan led over 40 international students on a cultural exchange trip to Henan Province, where they visited numerous important cultural sites. She also worked at a BNU Cultural Exchange Conference to facilitate discussion among foreign students from BNU and Shaanxi Normal University regarding their experiences studying in China. Kaiyan is very excited to be a part of WMCI’s efforts to promote Chinese language and culture. She is particularly interested in teaching courses on Chinese calligraphy and traditional Chinese painting.
