Xuewei Hou（侯雪玮） has recently joined the Confucius Institute at William & Mary as a volunteer Chinese teacher in September, 2013. She is currently a Master student at Beijing Normal University, majoring in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages. Her academic interests span second language acquisition, teaching Chinese as a second language and cross-cultural communication.
She has been trained extensively on teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Before she joint WMCI, she worked as a part-time Chinese language tutor for foreign students and an intern language teacher in secondary school in China. From those teaching experiences, she has acquired teaching skills and developed interests to promote Chinese teaching in U.S. Additionally, she has been trained on traditional Chinese culture such as Chinese Knotting, Chinese Paper-cutting, Chinese bamboo flute (a traditional Chinese instrument) and Tai Chi Chuan.
