Li Zhao (赵莉) joined the William and Mary Confucius Institute as a volunteer teacher in August 2017. She is a graduate student at Beijing Normal University majoring in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages. She has prior experience teaching Chinese to American students. From June to August 2016, she joined the Duke in China program and taught language and culture classes to American students from universities such as Duke University and Yale University, organized cultural immersion activities and held one-on-one oral Chinese lessons. For her efforts, she received the “Outstanding teacher” award. She has also taught students from the University of Michigan and Brookline High School. Furthermore, she won first place in the Annual teaching contest held by Beijing Normal University in 2016. Li Zhao is very excited to be a part of WMCI’s efforts to promote Chinese language and culture.
