Teaching
Undergraduate teaching and research have increased in part as a reaction to the groundswell of student interest. In addition to the undergraduate program in Environment & Sustainability, the university also has strong environmental offerings and faculty expertise in the Virginia Institute of Marine Science/School of Marine Science, The Thomas Jefferson Program in Public Policy, the Law School and the Business School.
The Commonwealth Center for Energy and the Environment encourages research, teaching and community-based activities at the cutting edge of a variety of environmental issues and involving a variety of disciplines, including science, policy, law, the arts and humanities.
Listed below are academic courses that include sustainability content or concepts. The content may include the ability of a system (natural, physical or human) to maintain its functions and processes over time, in addition to general issues of environmental stewardship.
