This summer the W&M Bray School Lab and The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation finalized plans for a publication on the Williamsburg Bray School (1760-1774). Using the working title of The Williamsburg Bray School Letters: A Community Speaks, the book will have Lab-generated content and will be published by Colonial Williamsburg. We are proceeding on a 2026 publishing timeline.
The Bray School Letters centers on 7 archival documents (including student lists) that help sketch the founding, operations, and closing of the Williamsburg Bray School. Each document or pair of documents will be followed by five or six 800-word essays of reflection or analysis by Bray School descendants, long-time community members, public historians, and other stakeholders in the Bray School's history.
