William & Mary helped Horacio Carreño Karp discover that he wanted to pursue a career that had a distinct and direct impact on communities and issues that he found valuable. According to Horacio, the demands and needs of today should push us to fight for our passions and improve our environment. “To do this we need to start viewing education as not just a means to an end, but as a catalyst that allows us to endeavor to pursue our interests and passions,” he says. “A William & Mary education helps you to unlock, analyze and reflect in a way that enables you to make a difference.”

In his current role as operations director at We Are Home, Horacio can focus on supporting issues that are personally important to him. We Are Home is a nationwide campaign to fight for immigrant communities on three fronts: prioritizing and demanding a pathway to citizenship for the 11 million undocumented immigrants in America; a moratorium and overhaul of interior enforcement; and broad affirmative relief from deportation. He previously served as foundation relations manager for Faith in Action, a national community organizing network dedicated to achieving racial and economic justice by organizing people of faith to transform unjust systems and policies.
