Office of Sustainability


The Office of Sustainability strives to foster collaboration across the university in support of sustainability through environmental, social, and economic responsibility. The office is a resource for the entire W&M community and engages students in the process of creating change in a manner intended to help them become leaders who will influence the world.

  • Facilitate holistic change toward a sustainable campus and world
  • Create a sense of community that drives sustainable progress
  • Integrate sustainability into the operations, academics, and policy of W&M
  • Provide educational experiences and resources to faculty, students, and staff so that they may be ambassadors of change

Calandra Waters-Lake

[[e|qfam, Jenny Fam Qian Yee]] | Graduate Assistant of Sustainability 

Jenny Fam is the Graduate Assistant at the Office of Sustainability while pursuing her Master's degree in Higher Education Administration at the School of Education. She is originally from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with B.S. in Biochemistry and worked as an International Program staff, where she assisted in the logistics of orientation, developed welcome events for new students, and recruited and trained new student orientation leaders. At W&M, Jenny coordinates with the Director of W&M Sustainability by providing operational and administrative assistance in a wide variety of initiatives, training and more. She oversees the EcoReps program, and events such as Earth Week and Meet the Greens.

Sustainability Interns
Caroline Failon

[[e|cmfailon, Caroline Failon]] | Program Intern 

Caroline Failon is a junior majoring in Biology with a Mathematics minor, from Richmond, Virginia. She serves the executive board of the sustainability organization called DormMania since her freshmen year, that focuses on reducing campus-wide move-out waste in the spring semester and selling the used dorm items at the fall sale. In 2017, DormMania exec along with volunteers helped to save around 9,000 pounds of dorm room items from being thrown away! Outside of DormMania, she is involved in the social sorority Pi Beta Phi as the VP of Fraternity Development. Over the summer, she continued her internship for the Virginia Council for Private Education and also did some awesome lab and salt marsh field work with Virginia Institute of Marine Science in David Johnson’s Global Change Ecology Lab. She is excited to continue her interest in sustainability as a Program Intern this year!


[[e|rcford, Riley Ford]] | Program Intern

Riley is a junior from Richmond, Virginia double-majoring in Public Policy and Economics with a specific interest in environmental and conservation policy. She has been a Sustainability Dining intern for the food service provider on campus, Sodexo, since 2017 and has helped initiate sustainable dining policies in her time there. She interned with the Virginia Conservation Network in summer 2018, and helped organize the joint VCN and W&M Sustainability Environmental Assembly that occurred in September, 2018. She is very excited to join the team as a Sustainability Program Intern and to continue making William and Mary a greener campus. 


[[e|kataylor02, Kate Taylor]] | Communication Intern

Kate Taylor is a communications intern for the Office of Sustainability, managing the W&M Sustainability calendar, listserv and more. She is majoring in English and minoring in economics. In addition to her love of sustainability work, she is a passionate animal rights activist on campus. She also writes blog-style articles for W&M Her Campus and loves to paint! [[e|selykins, Sydney Lykins]] | Communication Intern

Sydney Lykins is a senior at the college double majoring in Marketing and Psychology with a concentration in Sustainability. Her academic interests involve corporate social responsibility and the relationship between the environment and holistic wellness. In addition to being a Communications Intern with the Office of Sustainability, managing the W&M Sustainability social media Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Hark Upon the Green blog,  Sydney is also a yoga teacher at the Campus Rec Center and is a Tribe Ambassador with the Office of Admissions.
