How can you recycle?

The university’s recycling program is one of the most successful in the state! W&M placed 1st in the state within a RecycleMania diversion category and the compost category in 2017.

We have a mixed (often called single stream) system, which means all recycling goes into one bin and is then sorted at the recycling plant. Recycling is collected deskside from offices, in residence hall common areas, many public common areas, and most outdoor locations. W&M also composts pre- and post-consumer food in the dining halls on campus.

Inside

Academic/Administrative Buildings: dark blue containers in offices accept mixed recyclables (see the list of acceptable recycling content to the left).

Residence Halls: each room/apartment has a blue recycling bin—simply empty your recycling into the large blue recycling dumpsters outside.

Outside

Large blue recycling containers are located next to most existing solid waste containers in high traffic areas and accept the same items as the indoor blue bins.
