2018 Virginia Environmental Assembly

In 2018, W&M Sustainability collaborated with Virginia Conservation Network (VCN), hosting the Virginia Environmental Assembly and VCN's Annual Meeting, an annual two-day conference at the W&M School of Education. The event welcomed over 250 participants, engaging Virginia communities and W&M students for a holistic experience in learning and networking with emerging leaders. 

A field trip highlighting the distinct natural resources in the Williamsburg area was included, where W&M Sustainability showcased the researches taking place at the campus greenhouse to participants.

2016 Sustainability Summit: Food for Thought, Food for Action

Fourth Annual Sustainability Summit: Food for Thought, Food for Action

In 2016, the 4th Annual Sustainability Summit: Food for Thought, Food for Action was held by the Committee on Sustainability, with the help from the Environmental Science and Policy Department, the Office of Community Engagement, and Africana Studies. The Summit brings together campus and community to engage on sustainable food issues, such as hunger, environmental impacts, and the history of what we eat.

 

Panelists for the event were student Zhuowei Huang of the Food Recovery Network, Savannah Williams of South of Ferry Farm, Professor Daniel Maliniak of the Government Department, and Tracy Herner from the Williamsburg Farmers Market. Campus Kitchen and SEAC Gardening will hold workshops. 

Michael Twitty, a food writer, independent scholar, culinary historian, and historical interpreter was the keynote speaker. Listen to his NPR feature.
