Mary Lawrence Young

Mary Lawrence is a Senior from Richmond, VA double majoring in Anthropology and Environmental Science & Policy. Growing up in Virginia, she spends many summers sailing her Sunfish throughout the Rappahannock River and the Chesapeake Bay. This year, Mary Lawrence will be combining her interests into an Honors Thesis, exploring the sustainability of the Native American oyster fishery in comparison with the post-Colonial collapse faced by the fishery within the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Claire is one of this year's Earth Week Co-Chairs and a junior studying International Relations focusing on environmental issues. Through her work on Earth Week and as a Trip Leader for the Tribe Adventure program, she is committed to making sustainability and the outdoors more accessible to students across campus. Sarah is currently a freshman at William & Mary and is planning on studying Environmental Science and Policy. She is excited to help run Earth Week as the Marketing and Communications Chair this year due to her passion for sustainability and service.

Emily Kaplan

Emily is a freshman from Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. Emily hopes to double major in Environmental Science and Sociology and potentially work for a sustainable clothing company. In addition to the Earth Week Committee, Emily is also a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and the club swim team. She is extremely passionate about sustainability and the environment and loves spending time outside. Her favorite outdoor spot on campus is the docks near the amphitheater!

Emily is a sophomore double majoring in History and Government. She is excited to serve as one of the social media chairs for the committee, and can’t wait for Earth Week! Outside of school, she loves cooking for her friends and going on walks around Colonial Williamsburg!

Julia Masterman

Julia is a freshman from Fairfax, VA serving as the Campus Liaison for the Earth Week Committee. She is studying International Relations in the Joint Degree Programme. Outside of the Earth Week Committee, Julia is the Director of Internal Logistics for the Model UN Conference Team and served on the Secretariat for WMHSMUN this past fall. In her free time, Julia loves to sing, hike, and be around friends. Julia is very excited for her first Earth Week at W&M and looks forward to seeing all that is able to safely be done!

Sydney Thayer

Sydney is a freshman from the Chicago suburbs, double majoring in Government and Environmental Science & Policy. She is passionate about composting, plant-based eating, and incorporating sustainability into her everyday life. On-campus she is also involved in Young Democrats and Green & Gold Village Community Council where she focuses specifically on sustainability-related dorm initiatives.

Maddie Winer

Maddie is a freshman from Arlington, VA. She plans on double majoring in Environmental Science with Geology to possibly pursue soil science. She is also involved in Club Women’s basketball as the gear chair. In high school, Maddie was the president of her school’s Environmental Club where she started composting and maintained the school’s recycling program. She loves going on hikes (that sometimes turn into trash pickups) and spending as much time outside as possible
