Effective March 1, 2014, the Office of Student Leadership Development will invoke a temporary suspension of the recognition process for newly proposed student organizations at the College.
This hiatus will allow the office the opportunity to investigate and implement more effective procedures for recognition as well as an annual renewal process for current student organizations. The temporary suspension for proposed new student organizations will have no impact on currently recognized organizations.
We intend for this review to help us clarify the specific privileges and criteria associated with student organization recognition at the College of William & Mary. The short term suspension of recognition has been strategically timed to take place at the mid-point in the spring semester to ensure minimal disruption to students interested in proposing new groups in academic year 2013-2014. The revised recognition process will be in place no later than August 2014, at which time students interested in creating a new group may contact the office to begin the new process.
The Office of Student Leadership Development recognizes approximately 375 clubs and organizations on campus. The restructuring of the office over the past year has afforded us the opportunity to examine our procedures and look for improvements and increased efficiencies. We seek opportunities to effectively serve the students, faculty, staff, and the resources of the College. We believe an improved recognition process for student organizations will allow us to better support students and forward the mission of the Office of Student Leadership Development.
A Tribe Response form has been created to receive suggestions from students regarding the organization recognition process: https://forms.wm.edu/13488
