Asynchronous Teaching Assistants

Duties: The Online Teaching Assistant supports faculty in a variety of online teaching functions as they deliver blended courses. The ATA provides assistance with the various tools and technologies used in blended learning, including Blackboard, Google Tools, Zoom, and Panopto. The ATA will have a flexible schedule, with a mix of fixed hours and flexible hours, but this person will need to be readily and regularly available via online tools to respond to faculty needs in a timely manner. This position will require being able to handle multiple tasks in a timely manner with the ability to triage issues as they arise. An individual in this position will need to be able to communicate courteously with potentially frustrated people. An individual who is willing to learn some new technology and enjoys helping others will enjoy serving as an ATA. 

Required Qualifications:

  • At least one year of experience as a Blackboard user/W&M student
  • Ability to work flexible, scheduled hours with a mix of dedicated on-campus and off-campus hours
  • Ability to be on-call, off-campus during certain scheduled hours
  • Willingness to learn new educational tools and technology quickly and feels comfortable using technology (familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud or any video production tools is a plus)
  • Responsible and dependable
  • Ability to triage needs and problem-solve
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks or projects at once
  • Can communicate courteously with frustrated people
  • Enjoys helping others 

Hours: 10-20 per week

Pay Per Hour: $8.00-$10.00

Educational Media Production Assistants

Duties: Do you desire to apply your creative energies to create effective multimedia? Do you enjoy working with video production and post-production? We are looking for someone to assist in the creation of effective multimedia for blended learning experiences. The selected candidate will participate in the planning and pre-production, production, and post-production of digital learning content. This individual will work collaboratively with the Instructional Design Manager and the Educational Media Design and Production Specialist. 

SkillsParticipate in planning, pre-production & Post production of Online programming collaboratively with Instructional Design Manager & the Educational Media Design and Production Specialist.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to work collaboratively.
  • Good communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Basic familiarity with video, sound, and lighting equipment
  • Video editing experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Experience with Adobe Premiere or Final Cut X
  • Advanced familiarity with video, sound, and lighting equipment
  • Graphic design abilities 

Hours: 10-20 per week

Pay Per Hour: $11.00-$13.00

Synchronous Teaching Facilitators

Duties: The Synchronous Teaching Facilitator (STF) supports faculty in a variety ways to support synchronous communication via video with students. The VA provides assistance with the various different video conference tools and technologies used to synchronously connect with students, including Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams. Specifically, the VA will provide facilitation support for scheduling, configuring, managing breakout rooms, and facilitating synchronous Zoom sessions for classes, small group meetings, and/or office hours. Additionally, they can support faculty in saving recordings, arranging for captioning, and posting recordings to Blackboard. The VA will have a flexible schedule, with a mix of fixed hours and flexible hours, but this person will need to be readily and regularly available via online tools to respond to faculty needs in a timely manner. An individual in this position will need to able to communicate courteously with potentially frustrated people. An individual who is willing to learn some new technology and enjoys helping others will enjoy serving as an VA.
