Find Your Experience
The new student transition does not end with Orientation.
STEP collaborates with campus and community partners to implement our Find Your Experience program. Through year-round initiatives and thoughtful programming, we support new students (both first-time-in-college and transfer students) as they develop their authentic selves and explore their role within the W&M community.
We are aided in this process by our Initiative Directorate. These students manage our initiative areas by helping us plan, design, facilitate, and promote both large and small-scale opportunities.
Our Initiative Areas
Academic
Initiatives connecting first-year students with faculty members outside the classroom, and encouraging academic enrichment and the development of one's purpose post-graduation.
Community
Initiatives encouraging first-year students to engage in discussions and conversations across campus about important current issues and events.
Distinctive
Initiatives designed to support first-year students of distinctive groups (i.e. military/veteran, gap-year, first-generation, international student) within the W&M community.
Engagement
Initiatives encouraging first-year students to become active members of the campus community.
Essential
Five sessions (four held in the fall semester; one held in the spring) considered to "essential" in the holistic development of W&M students as each supports a key element found within our community.
Health & Wellness
Initiatives encouraging first-year students to manage their physical, mental, and emotional health and find balance.
Transfer
Initiatives supporting the transition of students who have had a full-time college/university experience prior to joining the W&M community.
