Travel Alerts

We take the safety of our students, faculty and staff very seriously. Before you travel or consider traveling, it is your responsibility to review and understand the potential risks involved. (links to travel policies are below and on the list to the right)

International Travel Policy

Under the Policy for Travel to University Travel Advisory Countries all students, undergraduate and graduate, must check the W&M Travel Risk Rating below for each country prior to engaging in international travel to see if the destination is restricted or if there is a W&M Advisory that requires further review by the International Travel Review Committee (ITRC)   The ITRC is made up of the International Travel and Security Manager (Chair), the Director of Global Education, and William & Mary’s Chief Compliance Officer.

Appeal of denial of travel to a Travel Warning Country

Each student who petitions through the ITRC and is denied may appeal to the Vice Provost of International Affairs (VPIA) for further consideration.

Restricted Destinations

Restricted Destinations comprise those countries currently prohibited due to extreme health, safety or security risks. University-related travel for undergraduate students is prohibited. Students cannot be required to participate in activities in this destination. Regular (annual) educational programs may be suspended and subject to further review or evaluation. W&M Travel Risk Warnings

Below is a list of countries (in alphabetical order), that are under W&M warning or alert. When you click on a country name, a drop-down menu will appear showing links to any alerts or warnings from the U.S. State Department and/or Centers for Disease Control (CDC). We try to keep this information as up-to-date as possible, but for the most current information and health advice, visit the U.S. State Department and Centers for Disease Control websites.

The ITRC has reviewed all the countries and through careful vetting, faculty input, U.S. and other government resources and security provider analysis has determined that the following destinations merit a W&M travel advisory. The ITRC reserves the right to add or remove a country from this list based on a regularly monthly review or more frequently should circumstances dictate.
