The Office of International Students, Scholars & Programs (ISSP) is seeking a graduate or undergraduate student to serve as a Peer Assistant for International Events for the 2024-2025 academic year. The Peer Assistant will be primarily responsible for developing and implementing trips, events, and activities for international students.

Position Elements
- 10-15 hours a week during the fall and spring semesters. Student is not required to work during official university breaks (e.g., spring break, winter break, summer)
- Occasional night/evening work
- Occasional weekend work
- If interested and available, the student may assist with International Student Orientation activities before the fall and spring semester begins.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop, publicize, and lead trips, events, and activities for international students.
- Work collaboratively with campus offices, student groups, and off-campus organizations to develop programming initiatives.
- Introduce and refer students to appropriate on-and-off campus resources.
- Assist with and present at the fall Graduate and Undergraduate International Student Orientations (if student is interested and available 1-2 weeks before semester begins)
- Assist with the creation of print and digital communication and publicity pieces (e.g., newsletters, fliers, webpages, etc.).
- Provide front-desk coverage when needed.
- Assist with office administrative duties.
Qualifications/Eligibility
- Graduate student applicants: Currently enrolled or incoming graduate student at W&M or VIMS
- Undergraduate student applicants: Currently enrolled sophomore, junior or senior.
- Some experience in programming/event planning. Training will be provided but candidate must have a strong interest in programming.
- Interest in working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Organizational and time management skills
- Creativity balanced by an attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- A valid U.S. driver’s license is required; the Peer Assistant will be required to drive a W&M 12 passenger van for some events and trips. The Peer Assistant must have completed a W&M van certification training course or be eligible to complete the course (i.e., able to provide a complete driving record for a U.S. driver's license for the past 2 years and have not had a moving violation within the past year).
