Procedure

Leave of Absence/Voluntary Withdrawal

(For Academic or Medical reasons)

  • The student’s SEVIS record is terminated for Early Authorized Withdrawal within 21 days of effective date (i.e., change is reflected in student's BANNER record)
  • Student has 15 days to depart the U.S. from the day the SEVIS record is terminated.
  • For F-1 students: If you are outside of the U.S. for more than 5 months, a new SEVIS record will be created for you when you are re-enrolled at W&M. You will need to pay the SEVIS fee again. Any time you had accrued towards the one academic year enrollment requirement to be eligible for OPT or CPT work authorizations will be lost. When you re-enter the U.S. with a new Initial Attendance SEVIS Record (I-20), you must be enrolled for one academic year after re-entering the U.S. before becoming eligible for OPT or CPT.
