2024-25 Room Selection
The William & Mary Housing and Dining Comprehensive Facilities Plan to modernize and revitalize our residential and dining facilities began during Summer 2023 and construction has begun. Over the next 10 years we will completely renovate or replace 80% of our residence halls, providing housing that is worthy of current and future W&M students. By fall of 2025 we will be adding just over a 1,000 new beds and more than 400 renovated beds to our inventory.
The comprehensive plan continues to have a rolling impact on housing capacity throughout the years, and we anticipate pinch points over the horizon. Some adjustments to our room selection process will be necessary and we understand those adjustments will be inconvenient. Know that we will support our students and the community through each phase of the facilities plan.
GENERAL DATES & DEADLINES
- December 6, 2023, 3:00 p.m. - Room Selection Information Session will provide an overview of the process and include time for Q&A.
- January 29, 2024 - The 2024-25 Housing Application and Contract will go live
- February 13, 2024, 5:00 p.m. - Housing Contract in the 2024-25 Housing Application must be signed to be eligible for on campus housing
- February 20, 2024 – Room Selection begins (2024 Room Selection Calendar)
All students who wish to live on campus next year must sign a Housing Contract in the 2024-25 Housing Application by the 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 due date in order to have the best opportunity of receiving a regular room selection time slot. Time slots during Traditional Room Selection Week will be based upon high school graduation year.
Students who sign a Housing Contract in the 2024-25 Housing Application after the 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 due date may be assigned a bed space by Residence Life staff if there is not an active housing wait list. If there is an active housing wait list at the time a student signs the Housing Contract, they will be placed on the wait list. Those who signed their contract after 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 will be added to the wait list behind those who met the initial contract due date.
ROOM SELECTION DETAILS
Rising seniors approved for housing will be the first to choose their rooms, followed by approved rising juniors, then rising sophomores. A student’s designated room selection day/time slot is determined by high school graduation year, not social class nor credit hour academic standing.
WAIT LIST DETAILS
W&M manages a wait list for on-campus housing every year – it is something we anticipate and are prepared to handle. Please see the W&M Housing Wait List page for more information on the wait list process. As the room inventory remains largely unchanged for the coming year, we anticipate a housing wait list of potentially 400-500 students, similar to last year. While we cannot guarantee that all students initially placed on the housing wait list will eventually be offered on-campus housing, in past years we have been able to house all undergraduate students who actively remained on the wait list, including Fall 2023.
OFF-CAMPUS HOUSING FAIRS
We want to provide support and information to our rising junior and senior students as they consider housing options for next year. We are in the process of scheduling several off-campus housing fairs for students who are not required to live on campus. Our goal is to connect students with property managers and related campus services. We will communicate these details once they are available. Please watch your email for news on this topic very soon.
NEW FOR 2024-25 ROOM SELECTION
- Old Dominion Hall will close for a full renovation and is scheduled to reopen in fall 2025.
- Monroe Hall will reopen for Freshmen in fall 2024.
- Barrett Hall will house freshmen for 2024-25.
- DuPont Hall will house upperclassmen housing for 2024-25.
- Same Room Sign Up – As our bed count inventory for the 2024-25 academic year remains static for next year, the Same Room Sign Up process will remain temporarily paused to ensure that we have enough space to accommodate the two-year residency requirement. Same Room Sign Up will not be offered for the 2024-25 Returning Student Room Selection Process. We look forward to returning to this practice in future years.
Disability Accommodation - Disability accommodations in housing are not automatically renewed for each academic year and must be requested and approved each academic year. An approved disability accommodation in housing does not guarantee that a student will be able to secure on campus housing and all upperclassmen are subject to the housing lottery unless specifically exempted. To ensure processing of accommodation requests prior to room selection, students should submit all requests for accommodation and associated documentation to Student Accessibility Services by February 5, 2024.
Religious Accommodation - Requests for religious accommodations in housing are considered on a case-by-case basis. To ensure processing of accommodation requests prior to room selection, students should submit all requests for accommodation and associated documentation to the Dean of Students Office by February 5, 2024.
Gender-Inclusive Housing – Residence Life is committed to offering gender-inclusive housing options to ensure inclusive communities. Residence Life offers gender housing preference options for students to meet individual needs.
We look forward to having you live on campus with us next year!
You must be a currently enrolled, full-time undergraduate or graduate student for the spring 2024 semester or be readmitted for the fall 2024 semester to be able to apply for housing (contact the Dean of Students office regarding readmission).
Step 1: Complete and submit your online Housing Contract
Housing contracts will be available online beginning January 30, 2023.
Complete a 2024-25 Housing Application & Contract by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2024:
By signing the housing contract you are committing to pay for on campus housing for the full 2024-25 academic year. This means you commit before you know your specific room assignment. Please review the contract carefully, including the limited cancellation policies. This is a legally binding document.
Step 2: Prepare for Selection
Many factors will come into play as you prepare to complete the room selection process. Take some time to consider your plans including selecting your roommate(s) (single rooms are limited), research your rooming options, learn about self-assignment time slots, and how a variety of factors may affect your final rooming selection.
Step 3: Online Room Selection
Learn what to expect from online room selection before the beginning of your time slot.
