Mosaic House

Mosaic House

Mosaic House is a co-curricular, co-educational residential house -- a special interest living option for William & Mary undergraduates. It is open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors, and is housed in Hardy Hall.

Students in Mosaic House are involved in on-going intellectual exchange about culture, diversity, interracial community, and sexuality. Mosaic House provides a supportive space for students at the intersection of the campus's growing diversification and also welcomes students who wish to expand their cross-cultural understanding. Students who live in Mosaic House have a private node of rooms and their own lounge, and organize their own events -- film series, speakers, book groups, diversity workshops, cultural fairs, and more. Initiatives serve Mosaic House members and the broader W&M community.

Program Eligibility and Requirements

Rising sophomores, juniors, or seniors from any discipline are eligible. To be considered for Mosaic House, students must be in good academic standing; they must have already taken at least one course on diversity issues prior to moving into the hall, and they must take one additional course during their first year in the dorm to be considered for readmission.* Mosaic residents are also expected to help organize and participate in cultural or activist events organized by Mosaic House during their year(s) of residence, and to serve on one House committee (a strong record of service and participation is also required for readmission). The Mosaic House Coordinators select all program participants.

*Courses, from across the curriculum, may address race and ethnicity, gender, sex and sexuality, cultural diversity (including immigrant issues in the U.S. or elsewhere in the world), and religious diversity. The most relevant courses will define culture as a dialogue rather than as a normative center.
