Newport News Mentor Initiative


School-based pilot program for one-on-one mentoring and tutoring for 6th to 8th graders, based in Crittenden Middle School (6158 Jefferson Ave., Newport News 23606). Volunteers are needed one hour each week: morning, lunch or after-school Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students and mentors are matched by the school system, and are asked to participate for one year. The tutor schedule is coordinated with school, with holidays off.


Seeking caring, committed, compassionate individuals looking to make a huge difference in a kid's life. Students chosen to participate may have risk factors such as: parental incarceration,and/ or live in area of city where incarceration is common.
