My child wants to be a Little

I am a parent of a prospective “Little”
Who is eligible for the virtual Xploration program?

All young people in grades K-12 that living in Williamsburg Redevelopment & Housing Authority housing units.

How do I sign up my child?

Please fill out the Virtual Interest Form 

Who will work with my child?

W&M students who have expressed interest in the virtual program, completed training for protecting minors and effective youth work, and who have passed a W&M background check.

Will volunteers be trained?

Yes. All volunteers will complete youth work training and the Virginia Department of Social Services’ Child Abuse Recognition and Intervention Training designated for mandated reporters.

What technology platform will volunteers use for sessions?

This summer, we will use primarily Zoom. Volunteers will work with families to connect to the platform. However, should we need to switch to other platforms (e.g. Google, Skype, Facetime etc.) to accommodate families with varying levels of comfort with technology we are willing to do so.

How can I provide feedback of the experience?

All parent/guardians will receive a survey at the conclusion of the summer session. You can submit additional feedback at any time via this form. (hyperlink form)

What are the expectations of parents/guardians?

We encourage parents/guardians of participants to:

  • Be present or have a responsible adult in the general vicinity (or near) the participant when engaging in virtual programming
  • Communicate regularly with the volunteer lead
  • Use the feedback survey to provide input
