The Office of Community Engagement offers funding for students to attend conferences on topics related to community engagement such as service-learning, community-based research, issue education, and ethical service, recognizing that addressing these topics in depth allows our leaders to develop and all students to be more effective and ethical in their work.
All W&M students are eligible. Applications are due three weeks before the conference registration deadline. Funding may be provided for registration, lodging, travel, and/or meals and incidental expenses. Students involved with OCE programs may also request use of an OCE van to travel to conferences within driving distance. Please note that funds for lodging may only be granted via reimbursement.
We encourage you to apply for student conference funding through Student Leadership Development if you are eligible, as the OCE's funds are very limited. You may apply to cover the remainder of your cost with OCE funds.
Funding may be granted for any conference related to a student's involvement in community; however, priority funding is given to the following recommended conferences:
Virginia Partnership for Out-of-School Time, Williamsburg, September 30, 2019
Ignite Retreat (Sullivan Foundation), October 18-20, 2019 (Asheville, NC), March 27-29, 2020 (Wake Forest, NC)
