What We're Looking for in Site Leaders
  • Commitment to community engagement, Branch Out mission and Branch Out vision
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Interest and a willingness to learn about the social issue addressed by your alternative break
  • Interest in working with a co-leader in a collaborative style
  • Ability to make time commitment to program, including mandatory retreat weekend, seven training sessions and advising meetings
What We Require of Site Leaders

Before the Trip

  • Complete Van Safety Training; if you are not already certified, you must be certified by December 2015 (final training class is October 7 - so sign up today)
  • Attend the mandatory Site Leader Retreat, Friday to Saturday, September 18 - 19, 2015
  • Attend all Site Leader trainings (seven sessions, primarily in the Fall semester)
  • Communicate with host site and lodging contacts before trip to plan quality issue education, direct service opportunities and finalize logistics
  • Communicate regularly and attend advising meetings with OCE staff and Branch Out National Student Directors
  • Assist with participant recruitment
  • Lead at least four team meetings, with group building, education, orientation, and training
  • Commit to Site Leader Accountability (SLs pay $100 for their alternative breaks, but missing more than two required events will result in paying the full fee of $250)

During the Trip

  • Work with a co-leader to lead all service activities in coordination with community partner
  • Transport team to activities in College van
  • Facilitate reflection activities
  • Manage team budget and follow financial procedures
  • Commit to alcohol-free and other drug-free policy
  • Communicate regularly and attend advising meetings with OCE staff and Branch Out National Student Directors

After the Trip

  • Plan post-break reorientation activities with your team, including the Branch Out reorientation event
  • Assist with recruiting participants to be site leaders
  • Communicate regularly and attend advising meetings with OCE staff and Branch Out National Student DirectorF
