Recent changes in the Google for Education licensing agreement means changes for WMApps.
Note: Google email (Gmail) and calendar are not included in new accounts. As W&M faculty and staff already have email in Microsoft Office 365, the newly-created Google Workspace apps are linked to the @wm.edu accounts instead. Existing Gmail-enabled accounts will not change at this time.
Recent changes in Google's Education Licensing Agreement re-categorized some Google Apps as Additional Services which fall outside of the protections offered by Google for Education.
As a result...
- Some affected apps in Google Workspace were retired on June 4, 2019.
- Some affected apps in Google Workspace will be retained but now fall under Google's terms of service.
- Core services are not impacted by this change and will be retained. They remain protected by the Google for Education licensing agreement.
Here's a list of what's staying and what's going in Google Workspace:
Staying in Google Workspace (No Changes)
The following apps are included under the Google for Education licensing agreement (listed as Core Services in the agreement.)
Staying in Google Workspace (With Changes in Terms of Service)
