Blackboard - Navigation Update

William & Mary's Blackboard is now using the upgraded Ultra-based navigation. This only impacts the dashboard and navigation within Blackboard. Courses remain the same.

Full Description

The navigation for William & Mary's version of Blackboard (Blackboard Learn) has transitioned to Blackboard Ultra.  Blackboard Ultra offers a more modern, intuitive navigation that provides quick access to the most critical information from across all courses. It creates a more engaging and efficient experience for students and instructors alike.  It looks very similar to the current Blackboard mobile app.

After the upgrade to Ultra-based navigation, the landing page for Blackboard will be the Courses page. Benefits of using the Ultra navigation:

  • Modern, intuitive experience
  • Responsive on mobile devices
  • Consolidated cross-course information
  • Quick access to the most critical information
  • One-click to take action
What's New
  • Blackboard will open directly to the Courses page, where you can find your list of courses.
  • The left-hand navigation will remain accessible while you navigate. (No more tabs across the top of the screen.)
  • The core features in the left-hand navigation menu aggregate content from all your courses reducing the need to navigate to individual courses.
  • Links to Blackboard-related resources (like the Blackboard Course Generator and Course Evaluations) will be located in the Institution Page.
  • Your name appears in the left-hand navigation menu instead of in the upper right corner.  Click on your name to access settings and account features.
    {{youtube:medium:right|_YuXFClGPv0, The activity stream in Blackboard Ultra Navigation aggregates announcements, news, and events from all courses, making it easier to keep up with the latest happenings.}}
  • The Calendar displays course events and due dates from all courses.
  • An Activity Stream aggregates up-to-the minute activity from all courses.
  • Messages allow you to send messages directly to others in your course.  Recommendations: Turn on notifications to get notified when a message is sent to you!

Important Note:  Blackboard courses are not changing to Ultra at this time. Once you click on a course, you'll be using the Original Course View.
