Banner, along with various related systems, will be unavailable on Sunday Nov. 16-17
The upcoming Banner maintenance period will be used to implement a major infrastructure upgrade which affects the processes used to run Banner. This change will provide additional capabilities with respect to testing and improving processes, ongoing upgrade management, and give us more environmental flexibility.
An upgraded database will put us on current hardware and software and allow us to run in a cloud environment. (Please note that we are not moving to the cloud at this time, but we are currently evaluating the move as a possibility for the future.) It also aids in our Disaster Recovery strategy and allows us to have more flexible test environments.
We will also be moving backend services like Process Submission, Sleepwake, Finaid Queueing, CleanAddress, etc. to Docker, the same infrastructure used to run the Banner Admin user interface. This will make it easier to scale up banner instances as needed to support upgrades, Ellucian engagements and payroll validation. This also allows us to run them in a cloud environment.
The Banner maintenance outage is scheduled for:
- Start: Saturday, November 16, 8am
- End: Sunday, November 17, 8pm
