Meet Colin
Colin Smolinsky was appointed William & Mary’s Director of Government Relations in March of 2018. Colin joined the Office of Government Relations in January of 2017 as Assistant Director after serving on Capitol Hill and in the private sector.

In his role, Colin oversees the university’s federal and state government relations portfolios. In tandem with the president and senior campus administrators, he crafts strategic legislative and executive branch outreach campaigns crucial to the success of a public research university. Colin builds and maintains relationships with state and federal lawmakers, political appointees and their staffs to communicate the mission of William & Mary, pursue state and federal funding opportunities and capitalize on strategic partnership opportunities with both public and private sector partners.

Prior to coming to William & Mary, Colin spent over three years on the staff of Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) where he served as a legislative advisor. Colin left Capitol Hill to serve as a government relations advisor at Jacques & Associates, a firm representing defense, aerospace and intelligence clients in the federal space.

Colin graduated from William & Mary in 2011 with a degree in Government. He was a member of William & Mary’s varsity men’s soccer team as a goalkeeper and served as the team’s captain his senior year. He is currently pursuing his Masters of Business Administration from William & Mary’s Raymond A. Mason School of Business.

Colin and his wife Kristin reside in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
