Full DescriptionAs of February 3, 2020, the Mu Upsilon Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (DST) has been suspended as a recognized student organization until at least the end of the spring 2022 semester. This suspension is the result of violations of the William & Mary Hazing Policy and comes at the conclusion of a university investigation and finding of responsibility by the Office of Community Values and Restorative Practices. The university is taking this action in part due to the international organization of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.’s individual membership review and investigation findings.
During the time of the suspension, the Mu Upsilon Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will be denied the use of all university facilities and resources and is not allowed to participate in or sponsor activities on campus. This also means the loss of special interest housing and the relocation of any residents of their chapter house on Richmond Road.
Decisions to suspend a chapter’s recognition as a student organization by the university are not made lightly and are done after careful consideration and investigation. At William & Mary, being demeaned or exposed to harm in the process of joining an organization should never be part of campus life. If you or your organization want to find out more about ways to address potential hazing activity are strongly encouraged to reach out to the William & Mary Hazing Prevention Coalition for resources and assistance.
