Spring 2011 Program Scholars

	Sam Chatto '13 Sam Chatto is a sophomore Government and Hispanic Studies major from Portland, Maine. He is an active member of One in Four, a campus tour guide, and his church community. During his freshmen year he was a Sharpe Scholar working with the National Park Service in Richmond, Virginia. After graduation he would like to pursue a career in international development or diplomacy. Sam enjoys traveling, history, the Boston Red Sox and golf. Sam is interning at the Center for American Progress.
	Chris D'Alessio '12 Chris D’Alessio is a junior Government and History major at the College from the New York City suburb of Glen Rock, NJ. This past summer, Chris spent a week in Washington as part of his Monroe research project on the recently passed ‘Obamacare’ legislation. He is excited to return to Washington for the upcoming semester. On campus, Chris is a member of Beta Theta Pi, a social fraternity. He is also a William and Mary tour guide and a member of the Canterbury Youth Group. A fan of all sports, Chris particularly enjoys baseball, and is huge fan of the New York Yankees. After college, Chris hopes to work in government. Chris is interning at NBC.
	Florian Dantreuille '13 Florian Dantreuille is an exchange student from France, and will be studying with W&M for one year. Since his school in France is an institute of political studies, his major here is government. He chose to come to the US because he wanted to know more about this country. One of Florian’s passions is music; he plays saxophone and guitar and has diplomas in musical theory and musical culture. Lastly, Florian is fond of meeting new people. He used to work in several organizations; for example, helping handicapped individuals. It taught him to work in group, listen to others and organize events. He is really happy to be part of the William & Mary in Washington Program, and is very excited and will do his very best to make the college proud. Florian is interning at the Council on Hemispheric Affairs.
	Robin Downing '12 Robin Downing is a Junior at the College majoring in Economics and Government. She is from Cheshire, Ct. where she just spent the last semester working at a real estate law firm and interning for the the city of New Haven in their legal department. When she is on campus she is actively involved in the Student Alumni Council and works at Swem Library in the Circulation Department. After graduating she is interested in participating in Teach for America, attending law school or pursuing a career in policy research. She is looking forward for this opportunity to live and work in D.C. to focus her post-graduation plans. Robin also enjoys spending her time watching movies and eating out with friends, running and baking. Robin is interning at the Center for American Progress.
	John Kendrick '12 John Kendrick is a junior double majoring in Government and Economics at the college. He grew up in Alexandria Virginia, but his current home is a small town in Alabama called Albertville. John works part time at both the Gap Outlet and the William and Mary Phonathon. He is also the co-philanthropy chair of the Kappa Alpha Order. In his free time, John enjoys working out and spending time with his fraternity brothers. Post-graduation he plans to join Teach for America and attend law school. John is interning at the Heritage Foundation.
	Cristina Marcos '13 Cristina Marcos is a sophomore at the College majoring in Government with a minor in Psychology, and is so excited to learn and work in the world of Washington media for the semester! On campus, Cristina is a news writer for The Flat Hat and is actively involved in the service fraternity Alpha Phi Omega. Originally from Falls Church, Virginia, Cristina grew up in the Washington area and has always had a passion for politics. She is a complete news junkie and hopes to pursue a career in political journalism. In her free time, Cristina enjoys reading every news periodical she can find, watching movies, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends. Cristina is working at The Hill newspaper.
	Cody McClelland '12 Cody McClelland is a junior English and History major at the College. He divides his weekdays between frantic cramming sessions in the library and frenzied discourse with the Debate Team; the weekends are reserved for leisurely reading, long walks, and games of chess or cards. He likes words, maps, politics, folk music, hats, and clever people. He does not like studying for the LSAT, but dreams of law school make this a necessary evil. A lifelong inhabitant of central Virginia, Cody hopes someday to escape to a modest estate in Cornwall or Scotland. Cody is interning at the Center for American Progress.
	Meghan Moore '13 Meghan Moore is a sophomore from Yorktown, VA who is double majoring in Government and Sociology at the College. She is a member of the honors fraternity Phi Sigma Pi, Project Phoenix, Reformed University Fellowship, the social sorority Gamma Phi Beta, and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. She is also involved in the Arabic department at the College and spent this past summer studying the language in Morocco. Growing up in the military community, she loves anything that involves travel and capturing those memories through a camera lens. Meghan also enjoys curling up with a great summer read at the beach, running, being outdoors, and when her Ipod shuffle plays the exact song she was thinking about. Meghan is interning at the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting.
	Jill Olszewski '12 Hailing from Chicago, Jill is a junior at the College double majoring in Government and Public Health. She is an active member of the Greek community where she serves as the Vice President of Finance for her social sorority Pi Beta Phi. She is also actively involved in MANOS: Medical Aid Nicaragua Outreach Scholarship. The group takes a year-long seminar in preparation for their spring break trip to Cujè, Nicaragua where they conduct ethnographic research and hold a clinic, within the community. In her spare time, Jill enjoys interning at the Williamsburg Community Health Foundation, getting cider in Colonial Williamsburg, reading, and cooking. After graduation, Jill plans to work in Washington DC before attending graduate school for a joint degree in law and public health. Jill is interning at the Department of Justice.
	Andrew Sassoon '12 Andrew Sassoon is currently a junior Economics and Environmental Policy major at the College. He was born in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and has lived there his entire life. On campus, he works at the William & Mary ID Office. He is also a member of the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity, the president of the William & Mary Racquetball Club, and participates in the College Partnership for Kids. He is an avid sports fan and enjoys listening to music in his spare time as well as exploring the outdoors. He hopes to see many concerts this spring in Washington. Andrew is interning at the Department of Homeland Security.
	Jamison Shabanowitz '12 Jamison Shabanowitz is a junior Government and Environmental Policy double major from Blacksburg, VA. He is, however, more than just an avid Virginia Tech Hokie fan. While at the College he is involved with the Committee on Sustainability’s recycling push, setting up an ink cartridge/cell phone drop off at the Tribe Computer Store, where he is also an Apple sales associate. His desire for increased recycling has also landed him a spot on the Student Environmental Action Coalition’s Recycling Campaign. When not helping to clean up the waste stream, Jamison leads the Alumni Relations committee on the Student Alumni Council while participating in two Swem Library committees, the Home Environmental Recommendations and Outreach group, and the Racquetball Club team. Outside College activities, he enjoys singing (loudly) and listening along to all kinds of music, riding his bike around Colonial Williamsburg, and “politely sharing” his opinion with you on anything under the sun. After graduation, he hopes to attend law school in the hopes of being a better advocate for the environment. Jamison is interning at the Department of the Interior.
	Lauren Stephenson '13 Lauren is a sophomore hailing from Glencoe, Illinois. She is an American Studies major and Film Studies minor. An avid news follower, Lauren has always aspired to be a news anchor. Her internship this past summer at WJFW, an NBC affiliate in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, made Lauren even more excited about pursuing the career she has wanted since she was four years old. On campus, Lauren is the executive producer and host of WMTV’s news program, TribeUpdate. As a freshman, Lauren hosted segments for ESPN-U’s Campus Connection. She is also a tour guide and tribe ambassador for the William and Mary Office of Undergraduate Admission, and a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. In her free time, Lauren enjoys keeping up-to-date on the latest news, spending time with friends and cheering on her beloved Chicago sports teams. Lauren is interning at NBC.
	Pete Tosiello '12 Pete Tosiello is a Public Policy and Religious Studies major from the greatest place in the world, Madison, Connecticut. On campus he is a Freshman Orientation Aide and member of W&M’s club basketball team and Knights of Columbus council. Pete was a Sharpe Community Scholar and previously interned at Questcon Technologies in Stamford, Connecticut. Born on July 4, 1990, the all-American junior is an avid fan of the New York Yankees, Knicks, Jets, Bruce Springsteen, and “Rocky” films who enjoys running, lifting, reading, and fishing in his free time. He dreams of one day being a rap mogul or NBA general manager but would settle for a career in media or public service. Pete is interning at NBC.
	Nancy Velasquez '12 Nancy Velasquez is a Junior Government major and Sociology minor at the College. She grew up in Alexandria, VA and is extremely excited about returning to Northern Virginia to work and study in DC. She is currently the Secretary for the Hispanic Culture Organization and a member of Spotlight Showchoir. After graduation, she hopes to work in DC and make a positive impact on national and foreign policy. On her down time, Nancy loves to write creatively, practice her singing, and read the daily news. Nancy is interning at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
	Alex Villanueva '13 Alex Villanueva is a sophomore at the College and a native of Washington, DC who lives in Northern Virginia, so the William and Mary in Washington program is like a homecoming for her. Growing up with a family steeped in international experience, she latched on to the International Relations major with relish, though was disappointed at William and Mary’s lack of a journalism program. She is a participant in the William and Mary Young Democrats and the International Relations Club. She is also active in NaNoWriMo Club, and writes a 50,000-word novel every year. In her spare time, which is growing increasingly spare, she enjoys drawing comics, writing stories, lurking around the Capitol, drinking tea, making atrocious puns, and getting into political arguments on Twitter. Alex is interning at the Department of Homeland Security.
