RevEd Teacher Summit: October 27, 2022

Collaborative Design for Teacher Professional Development Programming

It has never been more challenging, but also more important, for teachers to engage their students with more inclusive and honest history in a complex and politicized classroom environment. Museums and historic sites can become catalysts for change through teacher institutes and other professional development programming, and through building relationships with classroom practitioners over time. This work is challenging and inherently multidimensional. When teacher educators grapple with these questions together and with their K-12 and higher education colleagues and content experts, more robust and sustainable models can emerge.

Photo by Grace Helmick. On October 27th, 2022, more than 60 museum and historic site educators, teacher educators, and K-12 teachers gathered in-person and online for the RevEd Teacher Summit for 2026. Participants connected with colleagues from across the country to explore challenges and possibilities and take actionable strategies back to their teaching. RevEd was generously supported by William & Mary, Teacher InSites, and the Virginia 250 Commission. Some participants also opted to stay in Williamsburg to attend the For 2026 Conference hosted by the Omohundro Institute of Early American History and Culture (OI), William & Mary, and the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation at no cost.
