Memo on Parental Leave
Summary
Memorandum to Classified, Operational and Professional Employees dated October 4, 2018.
Full Description
TO: Classified, Operational and Professional Employees
FROM: Sam Jones, Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration and John Poma, Chief Human Resources Officer
SUBJECT: Parental Leave
DATE: October 4, 2018
On June 26, 2018, the Governor signed Executive Order #12 providing eight weeks of paid parental leave to certain state employees following the birth or placement of a child. While this order applies only to Classified employees at William & Mary, we are pleased to inform you that William & Mary is extending the parental leave benefit to Operational employees as well.
Please note that the existing William & Mary University Sick and Disability Plan allows Faculty and Professional employees up to 120 calendar days or 12 weeks of sick and disability leave including parental leave at 100% pay. As a result, no action is necessary to provide the parental leave benefit to faculty and professional staff.
Attached is guidance in a Q&A format (PDF) regarding how the Executive Order will apply to our Classified and Operational employees and how it impacts other benefit options. We have tried to anticipate the most common questions, but please contact the Office of Human Resources at [[askHR]] edu with additional questions. If you are currently a Classified or Operational employee with a child born or placed within the last six months, or if you are currently expecting or in the process of a placement, please make an appointment with Human Resources to review the benefits available to you.
