Administrative Policies
Attendance
You must be an Osher Institute at W&M member to register for and attend courses, one-time lectures, activities or special events. Please select classes with the intent to attend every session. Absences result in underused resources and the loss of a seat for a member on a wait list.
Wait List
If you participate in early registration and are not assigned a seat for a requested course, you will automatically be placed on the wait list. You will be notified if a seat becomes available. Until you receive notification from Osher staff, you may not attend classes for which you have been wait listed.
Dropping a Course
If you need to drop a course before it begins, please notify the Osher office so they may contact the first person on the wait list to fill the available seat.
Refunds
Osher Institute fees are membership dues that help cover expenses of operating our program in a given semester. The membership fee applies per semester. It is not directly related to how many classes you take.
Name Tags
Name tags are emailed a week before classes start. Plastic badge holders will be available on the first day of your in-person course. Wear your name tag to all Osher classes and events.
Guests
Courses, one-time lectures, activities, tours, and special events are intended for Osher at W&M members. A member may request a guest once a semester, for a single, 2-hour session on a single date, if the course is not fully subscribed. Pre-approval is required. Guests who live in the Greater Williamsburg area must be considering Osher membership to qualify. Call the Osher office at 757 221-1506 to request a guest.
Cancellations
Our weather policy mirrors that for university events and activities, and applies to all Osher classes, events, and training sessions. Our voicemail greeting will confirm a closure (757-221-1506). You will not be notified personally. The policy applies to both in-person and Zoom classes.
