COVID-19 Update

Full Description
8/25/2021 UPDATE: Effective Wednesday, September 1, 2021, William & Mary will require proof of vaccination for all members, instructors, and volunteers of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at William & Mary who will be taking or teaching classes on campus this fall. Masks will also be required indoors at all times.
We will be sending out invitations to Zoom sessions where members will be admitted to the room individually to show proof of vaccination to the university. More information will be forthcoming on this process in the coming days. Accepted records include the physical card you were presented when you were vaccinated, a photo of the card or proof of vaccination through the Virginia Department of Health's Vaccine Immunization Information System. Proof of vaccination will only need to be verified once.
W&M will process refunds for the fall semester to members who were signed up for on-campus classes who do not provide proof of vaccination by September 13th. Alternatively, members unable to provide proof of vaccination by this time may choose to take classes in a remote only format (Zoom). An Osher team member will be available to assist on a case-by-case basis.
We realize this news may be unwelcome, however, as has been the case throughout the pandemic, our first priority is the health of our community.

Osher courses will be held both in-person and online via Zoom for the fall 2021 semester. As we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, there may be unexpected changes in the schedule.  Please check the Catalog Changes document in the Announcement section of our website frequently for the most updated class information.  For the latest updates from W&M, visit our Path Forward information at and our COVID Response page at COVID-19.

Please plan to attend in-person classes with Osher only if you’re well.  Masks are currently required at all indoor locations (effective beginning August 10).

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at William & Mary continues to support the university’s health protocols to protect our members and our community and prevent the spread of COVID-19.  If you have any concerns related to COVID-19 (you are sick, symptomatic, or have been identified as a close contact) and would like to speak confidentially to an Osher staff member regarding your concern or specific situation, please call Mariellynn Maurer, our Director, at 757-221-1477 or email her at
