The College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA recently became one of the first campuses to evaluate an innovative new athletic performance platform. The Circuit by Sodexo launched this spring in William & Mary's Commons Dining Hall, a popular dining location for athletes on campus.

The Circuit is an innovative program dedicated to providing student athletes with the essential nutrition needed to maintain peak physical performance. The program uses menu icons and other marketing materials to educate student athletes about how to choose foods that optimize performance.

The William & Mary dining team tested new menus that included salmon, roasted chicken wings, parfaits, signature salads, and more. Menu icons highlighted lean proteins that build and repair muscle and foods that are rich in antioxidants that protect, defend, and repair cells. Other highlighted items included those with high water content that help athletes rehydrate and whole foods high in carbohydrates that help athletes replenish and reenergize.

The campus dietitian was on hand during meal times to engage students in the process and help them rethink some key misconceptions about nutrition.

Students were encouraged to try new menu items and complete a quick survey on their perceptions of the program. The response was overwhelmingly positive.

The Circuit is currently being introduced at a handful of other campuses throughout the United States, and Sodexo plans to expand the program to many more campuses in the future.
