The CVC Campaign, Charter Day and Thanksgiving

President Taylor Reveley sent the following message to the campus community Nov. 22 - Ed.

Dear William & Mary Community,

                Three thoughts:

First, we are in the midst of the annual Commonwealth of Virginia or CVC Campaign (otherwise known as the United Way Campaign).  This is when the campus community comes together to help meet a variety of charitable needs.  If you designate your CVC gift for a specific organization, this ensures it will go 100% to that entity, rather than being pooled with undesignated gifts and distributed as the state thinks best.  If you have not already, please do join the CVC effort.  It matters!  Gifts can be made by check or cash sent to the Bursar's Office or by visiting the CVC web site at www.wm.edu/cvc to set up a payroll deduction.

Second, Charter Day 2011 will take place at a new time and place next February.  William & Mary will celebrate its 318th birthday on Friday, February 4, 2011, at 4 P.M., in William & Mary Hall, rather than the following morning in Phi Beta Kappa Hall.  This change is being made to encourage more participation by the campus community.   Our prior practice of Saturday morning festivities has worked well for alumni, but not for students, faculty and staff.  Other steps to reinvigorate Charter Day weekend are afoot, including a concert for students in William & Mary Hall on Saturday night.

Third, Thanksgiving approaches, and we'll have three days to celebrate it.  This is good!  Best wishes to us all for a very happy, well-fed time.

                                                                                                         Cordially,

                                                                                                         Taylor Reveley
