Suspicious Person

Vice President for Administration Anna B. Martin sent the following message to the William & Mary Campus Community May 6, 2010 - Ed.

Dear William & Mary community,

There have been two recent reports of a male suspect confronting female students with lewd behavior or gestures. The incidents have either occurred on or near campus and were first reported to William & Mary Police Wednesday night. The most recent incident occurred Wednesday evening when the suspect exposed himself to the victim near Ukrop Way and Wake Drive. The earlier incident occurred Saturday in the parking lot of CVS on Richmond Road where a student reported that a suspect with the same description accosted her as she left the store. Fortunately, there were no physical injuries in either incident.

My purpose in writing is two-fold. First, it is to caution you that there may be someone in the Williamsburg area who is approaching young women and acting in an inappropriate manner. Second, please be aware of your surroundings and avoid walking alone whenever you can, especially at night. If you are on campus, remember you may call the ESCORT service at 1-3293.

Additionally, if you see a person meeting the following description, or experience anything suspicious call the police immediately: Black male, late 20’s to early 30’s, round face with protruding eyes, and a gap between his front teeth. The suspect was last seen wearing a blue ball cap backwards, white oversized T-shirt and jeans. An older model dark green, dark blue or black “boxy type” vehicle was also reported to police.

Local law enforcement officials have asked for any help we can give in apprehending the suspect. Should you have information that may assist them, please call William & Mary Police, 757.221.4596 or the Crime Line at 1-888-Lock-U-Up.

Thank you.
