William and Mary hosts 8th Annual Distinguished Faculty Lecture

The Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at the College of William and Mary, Carl Strikwerda, presents the 8th Annual Distinguished Faculty Lecture, "Environmentalists in the Boardroom: Using Public Policy to Encourage Corporate Responsibility" by Sarah Stafford, associate professor of economics, Sunday, Oct. 8 at 4 p.m. The event will be in Andrews Hall, Room 101 and is free and open to the public. A reception will immediately follow.

Stafford will discuss the motivations behind the trend of cooperation between environmental agencies and corporations and the resulting changes in both environmental policy and corporate environmental behavior. She will also discuss how the increase in corporate environmental responsibility ties in with the larger issue of corporate social responsibility.

Stafford received her B.S. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and her Ph.D. in economics from Johns Hopkins University. Before joining the faculty at William and Mary, she worked as a consultant to the Environmental Protection Agency. Her research focuses on environmental regulation and corporate environmental behavior; Stafford has received funding from the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Science Foundation, and Resources for the Future. In addition to her duties as associate professor of economics, Stafford is also the Edward Coco ‚55 Faculty Research Fellow.
