The Emergency Management Team sent the following message to the campus community in response to inclement weather impacting the Williamsburg area – Ed.
Dear William & Mary Community –
The Emergency Management Team continues to track the winter storm that is bringing a mix of wintry precipitation to the Williamsburg area. The latest National Weather Service forecast predicts precipitation continuing through early evening with accumulations of two inches or less near campus and higher totals west of town. Wind gusts up to 50 mph are possible and temperatures overnight are forecasted at or below freezing.
Therefore,
• Due to the probability of icy conditions tonight and into the morning, William & Mary will close today at 4 p.m. and remain closed until 10 a.m. on Tues., Jan. 4 in order for crews to clear and treat pathways and parking areas.
• Essential personnel should contact their supervisors.
• Non-essential personnel should not be on campus prior to 10 a.m. Tues.
Campus conditions:
• In addition to slick roads and pathways, the potential for power outages in the area exists.
For those on campus, if there is a loss of power do not use candles or gas-powered
appliances. Inform your area director of any outages. Area directors will provide additional direction as needed.
• Downed limbs or trees are also possible. Facilities Management will clear debris as soon as it is safe to do so.
• Please use the clear/treated pathways and parking areas. If you see an area that is a safety concern please contact WMPD dispatch at 757.221.4596.
