W&M Board of Visitors Executive Committee to Meet April 23

In accordance with Va. Code § 2.2-3708.2 (A)(3), the executive committee of the William & Mary Board of Visitors will meet by electronic communication means on Thursday, April 23, from 1-3 p.m. Eastern Time to hear an update from university leadership regarding the university’s response to the coronavirus.

An emergency meeting is permitted when the Governor has declared a state of emergency in accordance with Va. Code § 44-147.17, provided that (i) the catastrophic nature of the declared emergency makes it impracticable or unsafe to assemble a quorum in a single location and (ii) the purpose of the meeting is to address the emergency. The rector, in consultation with the president, has determined that it would be both impracticable and unsafe to assemble a quorum in a single location for this meeting. The purpose of the meeting is to address the emergency declared by Governor Northam on March 12, 2020.

The meeting will be held in open and closed sessions.  The open session may be accessed via the following link on the Board webpage: www.wm.edu/bovmeeting.

Following a motion and vote of the executive committee to convene in closed session, members of the committee and university officials will leave the open session and continue in closed session. Following the closed session, committee members will return to open session to certify that only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements and which were identified in the motion authorizing the closed session were heard, discussed, or considered in closed session.

The meeting end time is approximate; the committee cannot always anticipate changes in the length of its meetings. There will be no opportunity for comments from the public during this meeting.
