Notice regarding Devon Futrell

John Poma, chief human resources officer, sent the following message to the campus community June 3, 2016 - Ed.

Dear Colleagues:

I write to share the sad news that Devon Futrell passed away on May 20, 2016, in Hampton Virginia.

Devon was born on April 9, 1960, in Charles City, VA.  She attended Lafayette High School and worked in the Facilities Management Department as a custodial worker for over 15 years.

Devon enjoyed dancing, bowling, playing bingo, the lottery and taking trips to the casino.  She also loved to tell stories about her life’s experiences and her love for her children.  She loved and cared for her entire family.  She will be missed by many loving relatives and caring friends.

Devon is survived by her former husband, John Futrell; her children, Henry W. Graham, Teona S. Graham and Alvin V. Graham; her stepson Deante Walker; nine grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two sisters; and three brothers.

A funeral service was held on June 1, 2016, in St. John Baptist Church, Williamsburg, VA.  To Devon’s friends, to those around campus whose lives she touched, and especially to her family, we extend our deepest sympathy.

Sincerely,

John
