Safety message to the community
Vice President for Student Affairs Ginger Ambler sent the following message to the campus community Dec. 5, 2016 - Ed.
Dear W&M Community,
On Saturday morning a student reported an off-campus sexual assault to the Williamsburg Police Department (WPD). WPD immediately identified the suspect, who is not affiliated with the university, and they advised the William & Mary Police of the same. The suspect was arrested that day. Student Affairs staff and the WMPD immediately reached out to our student and we are offering resources and personal support.
Williamsburg and the campus area are generally very safe, but this is a reminder that crime can and does happen. If you or someone you know has experienced sexual assault, dating violence, or stalking, resources are available. The attached poster – widely displayed on campus – provides a summary of those resources, and more detailed information is available on university’s sexual violence website. Our thoughts continue to be with our student at this difficult time.
