About Theatre, Speech, & Dance

William and Mary Theatre presents high-quality, richly staged performances, reviving important classical dramas as well as producing the most challenging contemporary theatre.

William and Mary Dance brings exciting concerts of original faculty and student choreography to the community.

The Virginia Shakespeare Festival, a professional theatre program sponsored by the department, produces an annual summer season.

Students may complete a major or minor in Theatre or a minor in Dance.  Many of our students pursue a double major in Theatre and another area of study. Students from all areas of William & Mary's campus participate in W&M Theatre and W&M Dance productions.

Students work closely with faculty in small classes and one-on-one on independent undergraduate research. Capstone experiences include Honors theses, main stage design assignments, senior directorial projects, and original choreographic projects.

Our students receive broadly-based, cross-discipline training that prepares them for graduate work and careers in related fields. Our alumni have found that the skills they develop working on departmental productions are an asset in a variety of careers.
