Full Description
The National Science Foundation (NSF) supports summer research experiences for undergraduates (REUs) in colleges, universities, and other organizations across the country. Each institution sets its own application procedures and eligibility standards for its REU program. Students apply directly to the appropriate institution.

The American Statistical Association received grant funding from the NSF to host three REU sites. Morgan State University administers one of these sites and is conducting its first Summer Program Advancing Techniques in Applied Learning of Statistics (SPATIAL-Stats). This REU site “promotes active learning and engagement in problems in statistics, emphasizing spatial statistics. The SPATIAL-Stats research project involves developing and analyzing spatial statistical methods that will detect geographic distributions of populations at risk, determine cancer rates, and define environmental conditions that impact diseases. Students will also participate in field trips to government research labs, attend a professional conference, and engage in a plethora of opportunities for career development.” Students will participate in the program for 10 weeks during the summer.

Applications will be accepted between January 29 and March 30, 2018. To apply, please go to these websites: www.spiralreu.org or www.spatialreu.org.
