Background
Alan Kennedy is a lecturer of public policy at William & Mary and serves as a judge advocate general in the United States Army Reserve. Kennedy earned his B.A. from Yale University, J.D. and M.A. from William & Mary, and Ph.D. from the University of Colorado Denver School of Public Affairs. He teaches public policy, law and public policy, military policy, and negotiation and conflict resolution. His research on gun policy, civil rights, and federalism, has been published in Public Administration Review, Review of Public Personnel Administration, and Journal of Policy History. Books include The Obama Revolution and Denial and Deception: A Study of the Bush Administration’s Rhetorical Case for Invading Iraq. Kennedy’s advocacy has been featured in The New York Times, Washington Post, and other media. Kennedy was a presidential elector for President Biden and Vice President Harris. He has been nationally recognized as a Founders’ Fellow by the American Society for Public Administration and a Top 40 Young Lawyer by the American Bar Association. Kennedy’s gun policy dissertation received top awards from the Graduate School and School of Public Affairs at the University of Colorado Denver. The views expressed are his own.
