Thomas GatesThomas Gates is a Senior Program Examiner at the Office of Management and Budget in the Executive Office of the President.  His portfolio includes policy, budget, and management oversight of the United States Postal Service, the Executive Office of the President, and the national security and law enforcement elements of the Department of the Treasury including anti-money laundering, sanctions, and financial intelligence. 

Prior to joining OMB, Mr. Gates was a Presidential Management Fellow and the first Deputy Director of the Veterans Affairs Center for Innovation (formerly the VA Innovation Initiative). At VA he helped establish the new office and develop the Department’s first “Industry Innovation Competition” as a more flexible tool for soliciting and implementing private-sector ideas to help Veterans.  He has also held several positions with the Commonwealth of Virginia, including Assistant Secretary of Technology and Assistant Secretary of Health and Human Resources for Governor Tim Kaine.

Mr. Gates graduated with honors from the College of William and Mary and earned a Master in Public Policy at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
