Research Interests

I investigate the origins, temporal course, and classification of psychopathology.  I focus on emotional disorders, which, broadly defined, include anxiety, depressive, and certain personality disorders.  In one line of research, I examine the environmental conditions that prompt—sometimes in concert with genetic vulnerabilities—the onset or exacerbation of disorder.  In another line of research, I evaluate the construct validity for transdiagnostic (i.e., dimensional) models of psychopathology to determine whether they might make research and treatment of emotional disorders work better.
