Application Process

Students who wish to attend the Semester-in-Residence Program for the Fall or Spring semester of the academic year should submit a completed Application Form (pdf), transcripts of all college-level work, and at least one letter of recommendation to the Director, National Institute of American History & Democracy, P.O. Box 8795, College of William & Mary, Williamsburg, VA 23187-8795.

Students who wish to claim Virginia residency for tuition purposes must also complete an Application to Determine Physical Residency/In-State Tuition (pdf). That form should be included along with the application form. These instructions apply to ALL students who wish to be considered for in-state tuition privileges no matter what their status at their home institution may be.

Students wishing to apply for the limited scholarships should complete the Financial Aid Application (pdf) form and return it to the NIAHD Director with their parents' U.S. federal tax return for that year.  Students may contact the Director for additional information.

To receive printed forms by mail, contact us by [[niahd, email]] or telephone at (757) 221-7652.

Deadline for Spring enrollment: October 15

Deadline for Fall enrollment: April 15

Students should submit application materials and contact the Director at (757) 221-7653 well in advance of the deadline. This is especially true for students who desire on-campus housing and for pre-registration for NIAHD-sponsored courses.
