The National Institute of American History & Democracy's Pre-College Summer Program in Early American History is open to high school students who will have completed at least their sophomore year of high school by the time the summer program begins. This includes rising juniors, rising seniors, and rising college freshmen.
Students who have only completed their freshman year of high school should consider applying in 2020. We will be happy to read your application next year!
The Admission Process
Admission to NIAHD's Pre-College Summer Program is not guaranteed. Space in our program is limited. Students are encouraged to apply as early as possible. NIAHD will not begin reviewing applications until mid-February. Applications are reviewed in the order in which they are received.
Every application goes through multiple levels of review before a final decision is made. It can take up to one month for applications to be reviewed depending on the volume of applications we receive. Our goal is always to have decisions made as quickly as possible.
Offers of acceptance will be sent out via email to the student’s email address listed on your application form. We will not mail offer letters through regular post.
If you receive an offer of acceptance, read the full email carefully. It contains a lot of important details, including registration information and payment deadlines.
All admissions decisions are made by June 5.

Registration and Payment Deadlines
Students will NOT be enrolled in classes until NIAHD has received full payment and all registration forms. Failure to meet deadlines may result in your space being offered to another candidate. NIAHD will send confirmation emails to both students and parents throughout the admission process to help you stay on schedule and meet all deadlines.
Registration and payment deadlines are based on the date we send your offer email. Generally, the timeline for determining payment deadlines is:
$400 non-refundable deposit is due within 2 weeks of being admitted
Final payment is due within 1 month of being admitted
Registration forms are due ASAP.
NIAHD will continue to accept and review applications until the program is filled. However, anyone applying after the application deadline has passed will be considered a late applicant. Late applicants will be subject to extremely short registration and payment deadlines should they be accepted; therefore, they should be prepared to pay the full tuition and complete all registration forms within two weeks of receiving an acceptance email.
