Eligibility
The National Institute of American History & Democracy's Pre-College Program in American History is open to high school students who will have completed at least their sophomore year of high school by the time the summer program begins. This includes rising juniors, rising seniors, and rising college freshmen.
The Admission Process
Admission to NIAHD's Pre-College Summer Program is not guaranteed, and space in our program is limited. The Pre-College Application Portal opens on December 1, 2022 and NIAHD will begin reviewing completed applications in mid-February.
Applications are reviewed in the order in which they are completed, and we make every effort to review completed applications within 15 calendar days of our notifying you that it is "Complete; Pending Review."
Acceptance letters will be sent via email from William & Mary's application portal to the email address that a student used to create their online application profile. NIAHD does not send acceptance letters through regular mail.
For 2023, the application deadline schedule is as follows -
- Saturday, April 1, 2023: Application Deadline for International Students applying to all of NIAHD's residential classes - History 216, History 217 and History 218 - in both Session 1 and Session 2. NIAHD will complete admissions for International Students who apply for History 216, History 217, and History 218 by Saturday, April 15, 2023.
- Wednesday, May 31, 2023: Session 1 Application Deadline for U.S. Students. NIAHD will complete Session 1 admissions for U.S. Students by Monday, June 5, 2023.
- Saturday, June 10, 2023: Session 2 Application Deadline for U.S. Students and for International Students applying for History 212. NIAHD will complete all Session 2 admissions by Monday, June 12, 2023.
Important: Admission to the National Institute of American History & Democracy's Pre-College Program does not imply or guarantee admission to the undergraduate program at William & Mary.
Registration and Payment Deadlines
Students will NOT be enrolled in classes until NIAHD has received full payment and all registration forms. Failure to meet deadlines may result in your space being offered to another candidate.
- $400 non-refundable deposit is due within 14 calendar days of receiving an acceptance email from NIAHD via the application portal.
- The remaining program balance is due within 30 calendar days of receiving an acceptance email from NIAHD via the application portal.
- Registration forms are due ASAP.
Late Applicants
NIAHD will continue to accept and review applications throughout the Spring Semester, or until the program is filled. However, anyone applying after the application deadline will be considered a late applicant; should they be accepted, they will be subject to extremely short registration and payment deadlines. Therefore, students should be prepared to pay the full program balance and complete all registration forms within 14 calendar days of receiving an acceptance email.
